A few posts back I announced the draft 2016 JO time standards and boasted that these were unlikely to be changed, except for an administrative error.  Well…we found an administrative error in the 13-14 boys SCY times, so those needed to be corrected.  The corrected JO time standards sheet and a time change analysis are posted below.

San Diego-Imperial Swimming has released the final draft of the Junior Olympic Time Standards for the 2016 competition year.  Junior Olympic time standards are set locally here in San Diego and are recomputed annually to select approximately the 24 fastest swimmers in each event, based upon the average results for the event over the past 3 – 5 years.  These time standards can, and often do, change by small amounts from year to year in order to keep up with advances (and rarely declines) in the various age/gender groups.  Note: These time standards have not yet been approved by the SI Swimming Board of Directors, and will be voted upon at the upcoming Board meeting in September.  However, it is unlikely they will change unless an administrative or computational error is discovered.

Parking around the JCC campus will be challenging!  The JCC has advised us that there will be no parking at the JCC lots until after 4:00pm on Thursday and Friday.  We have secured the use of the parking lot at La Jolla Country Day school on Friday (about 100 spots) from 6:45am until 7:30pm. Parents may also use the dirt parking lot (and only the dirt lot; violators will be towed) at the La Jolla Community Church from 7:00am until 7:00pm, subject to the following Church conditions:

  • The lot is occasionally striped, though they do not guarantee it will be for any specific event.
  • Any vehicle which is marked with a logo (or any picture) or motto (or any wording or numbers) must park on the property line, closest to the dumpsters.
  • Overnight parking is not allowed.
  • La Jolla Community Church does not monitor security or guarantee the safety of vehicles (or drivers or passengers) parked in this lot and cannot be responsible for any damage, theft, or loss.
  • Any vehicle blocking access to dumpsters, gates, entry ways, or sheds will be towed at the vehicle owner’s expense.  Any vehicle parked in the wrong lot will be towed at the vehicle owner’s expense.

San Diego-Imperial Swimming has released the revised meet information and schedule of events for this year’s Long Course Junior Olympics to be held at the Jewish Community Center pool in La Jolla on July 23-26, 2015.  All of the 126 events from last year’s 4 full-day meet format will still be offered, but the order of events has been changed to accommodate the new 3.5 day meet format.  In order to accommodate the shorter timeline, swimmers this year will be limited to a maximum of 6 individual events (instead of the 7 event limit last year).

San Diego-Imperial Swimming has announced that this year’s Long Course Junior Olympics meet will now be held at the Jewish Community Center pool in La Jolla.  This late change was necessitated by safety concerns which have closed the pool deck at the Coronado HS pool. Also, because of limited availability of the JCC pool, the LCJO format will have to change from the current 4 full day format back to a 3 full day + 1 evening format.  The Championship committee is working on coordinating all the details and packing 4 full days worth of events into 3.5 days worth of time!  The revised meet information and schedule of events should be released in the very near future.

SI Swimming was recently informed that the Brian Bent Memorial Aquatics Complex in Coronado will be closed to swim meets because of safety/liability concerns due to its crumbling pool deck.  The deck will most likely need to be replaced later this year. This will affect the upcoming CNSA AB Meet in June and the Long Course Junior Olympics in July.  Both meets will now need to find alternate pools, which is no easy task at this late date and with the usually busy summer schedule of most long course pools within San Diego county. More information to follow as it becomes available.
