For 2018, USA swimming awarded SI a grant for a coach mentorship program for our coaches to work with Team Elite Aquatics of North Carolina and Dave Marsh of UCSD.   This grant will allow us to send up to six coaches (3 with primary responsibility for senior level swimmers and 3 with primary responsibility for age group swimmers) to North Carolina to work with Team Elite Aquatics at their Queens facility and then to spend a day with David Marsh at a mutually agreed times. Following these opportunities, there will be an informal dinner in which the selected coaches will share what they have learned with other coaches in SI.  All expenses will be covered by the grant.

Team Elite/UCSD Swimming and SI Swimming are hosting a coaching clinic with David Marsh, 2016 Women’s U.S. Olympic Team & UC San Diego Head Swimming Coach David Marsh and select members of the UC San Diego Coaching Staff.  The clinic will be on February 3, 2018 from 10:00-5:00 at UC San Diego, Canyonview Aquatic Center, 3390 Voigt Dr, San Diego, CA, 92121.

This clinic is open to coaches of all levels.  A $10 donation to the Don Watkinds Memorial Fund is requested.

Pacific Swim is looking for a reliable age group swim coach that can help with their beginner novice and advanced novice practices. They are looking for a coach that likes working with kids, is a team player and has knowledge about USA swimming. San Diego Imperial Swimming is happy to welcome world renown Coach David Marsh to San Diego!  Coach Marsh was the 2016 USA Women’s head swim coach for the Rio Olympics and has coached 49 Olympians over the years.  He is now the swimming head coach  at UCSD.  We look forward to working with Coach Marsh to help elevate the entire San Diego Imperial swimming community!

Update:  The Wavehouse Swim Team will be having a memorial for Don today (August 1) beginning at 4pm, at the City Heights Recreation Center.


The San Diego Imperial swimming community lost one of its own on Thursday, July 27th.  Don Watkinds, head coach of the Wavehouse Swim Team, president of the San Diego Imperial Coaches Association, member of the San Diego Imperial Board of Directors and Disability Chair.  Some more background on Don can be found in this SwimSwam article.

When we receive information regarding Don’s memorial service, we will be posting on the website.

The USA Aquatics Convention is an annual event where athletes, coaches, officials and other volunteers gather to learn new ideas and network with others from around the country.  San Diego Imperial Swimming has just instituted a new program where a coach will be selected to receive a $1000 stipend towards attending the convention.  A single coach will be selected from the applications by the board of directors to attend each year.  In order to be eligible, the coach should have been coaching within the LSC at least 3 years and not be attending the convention in any other capacity (for the LSC, the Western Zone, USA Swimming, or any other organization).  To submit to be considered for this years convention, please fill out this form:  We are hoping to announce the winner at Long Course Junior Olympics, so please submit your application by Wednesday, July 26th.  If there is some reason you may have difficulty completing the application by the deadline, please send email to:

The Rancho San Dieguito Swim Team is looking for 2 experienced age-group swim coaches to work with their 12 & under swimmers.  Successful candidates will have a minimum of two years of coaching experience, as well as experience coaching age-group swimmers ages 6 to 12 years old, with a USA registered swim program. Coaching duties include daily practices, attendance at 1-2 weekend swim meets per month, regular staff meetings, and swim team administration duties.
