Please congratulate Carlos Davila for being our 2016 Outstanding Service Award recipient!  This award is sponsored by Phillips 66 and USA Swimming.

As the lead timing operator, key administration official and equipment manager for San Diego Imperial Swimming, Carlos Davila has been instrumental in the smooth execution of meets for the last 6+ years.  He is the first one to show up at the meets and the last one to leave.  He is tireless in his efforts at keeping all the equipment in prime running condition.  He is also an expert at debugging issues on the fly and getting the meet running if any problems come up.  Carlos is shown receiving his award at the SI SC Junior Olympics from Kevin Lee – SI General Chair.

IMG_2542Santa Claus made an unscheduled visit to the Monday night finals session of the 2015 WAGC.  He greeted swimmers and volunteers, and helped to hand out awards for the finals.  Here he is posing with the meet officials, who have (mostly) been good boys and girls.

The winner of the official of the year award was announced at the Long Course Junior Olympics held at the JCC.  This was the first year we have awarded this award in a very long time, and we received a number of worthy nominees.    The nominees were (in alphabetical order) Rich Cosgrove, Carlos Davila, Brian Davis, Cal Gabriel, Tim Marsh, John Smigal and Sally Taggart.  Thanks to all the nominees and the nominators for their excellent efforts.  The winner for 2015 is…  John Smigal.  Thanks to all of John’s efforts this year that have helped raise the level of officiating within our LSC and helped provide the swimmers with safe and fun swim meets.

I’m sorry for the late notice, but I’m going to hold an officials clinic after the Saturday session of the HSA 12&O swim meet this coming weekend (January 24).  It will be at the Granite HIlls HIgh School, same as the swim meet.  You can apprentice at the morning session and attend the clinic afterwards.
If you cannot attend the meet and would like to just attend the clinic, I’m not positive of the timing yet.  I would like to start the clinic during the 500 free’s which are scheduled to start around 12:30.  Plan on the clinic going from 12:30 to 2:30.
I have a Doodle poll set up.  Please enter whether you can attend the clinic or not here: http://doodle.com/z3eqsxyu2sera7eb
